Helping You & Your Children Manage Myopia

Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, is a growing concern, especially among children and young adults. It occurs when the eye grows too long, causing distant objects to appear blurry while close-up objects remain clear.

Myopia begins developing early in childhood, and around 30 percent of Americans are affected by the condition.

Our goal is to help you or your children manage the progression of myopia. We use innovative myopia control solutions such as Ortho-K and MiSight lenses, Atropine therapeutic drops, Rigid Gas Permeable lenses, and Stellest ophthalmic lenses to help manage myopia progression and control axial length.

Contact us to schedule an appointment today and address myopia early.

What Is Myopia?

Myopia can develop gradually or rapidly, often worsening from childhood through adolescence. Our team diagnoses myopia through a comprehensive eye exam, offering personalized treatment options for your children.

Common signs and symptoms of myopia can include:

  • Being unaware of distant objects
  • Squinting to see clearly
  • Excessive blinking
  • Headaches caused by eyestrain
  • Turning one’s head sideways to view objects
  • Sitting closer to the TV screen

The Link Between Vision & Learning

When your child has trouble with their eyesight, it can impact their life at school and cause difficulty with reading from a distance, seeing the board in class, and participating in sports and other activities.

Vision-related learning challenges can lead to stress and confusion and, if left undiagnosed, can cause children to fall behind their friends. Our team will work with you to develop a personalized myopia control plan that is right for your child.

Our Myopia Management Technology

Technology plays a big role in our myopia control services; it helps us provide accurate and effective myopia control treatments. Our diagnostic tools help us thoroughly assess the health of your eyes and tailor treatments to your specific needs.

With these innovative technologies, we can provide thorough and ongoing monitoring of myopia’s progression. These tools allow us to detect subtle changes and make data-driven decisions to help slow myopia and protect your child’s vision.

The ZEISS IOL Master is a device designed to measure the length of the eye, crucial for tracking the progression of myopia.

By monitoring changes in eye length over time, we can better evaluate how well myopia control treatments are working and make necessary adjustments. The ZEISS IOL Master technology provides important data for creating a personalized myopia management plan.

The Antares Corneal Topographer maps the surface of the cornea, providing detailed images that allow us to assess its shape and curvature.

This technology is invaluable and required for fitting Ortho-K lenses and ensuring they are customized to correct vision accurately while supporting myopia control. Corneal mapping with the Antares Corneal Topographer also plays a key role in evaluating overall eye health and guiding personalized treatment recommendations.

The Essilor optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a scanner that is designed to provide high-resolution images of the cornea and sclera, helping us to assess their thickness and structure. Especially important in myopia management, corneal and scleral changes can affect vision and overall eye health.

By using OCT, we can help verify that your child’s eyes are healthy and that myopia treatments are tailored to their specific eyes.

Our Myopia Control Strategies

Early intervention is key when it comes to myopia. Without proper treatment, myopia can worsen as a child grows, leading to higher prescription needs and an increased risk of serious eye health issues in the future.

By managing myopia in its early stages, we can help reduce the likelihood of complications and support your child’s long-term vision health.

MiSight 1 day lenses are soft contact lenses that can help manage myopia in children. Designed to be comfortable to wear, they help correct myopia by slowing its progression of myopia. MiSight lenses are daily-wear lenses, and children as young as 7 years old have shown confidence in handling these lenses. If your children aren’t fans of wearing glasses, then MiSight may be the right option.

MiSight contact lenses have a high success rate with clinical data showing that 90% of myopic eyes respond to treatment. On average, these lenses slow the progression of refractive error by 59% and axial length by 52%. In a 7-year study after stopping treatment, the gains made were retained with no “rebound effect” (where the eye grows rapidly to catch up).

These lenses are FDA-approved since 2019 in the United States.

Ortho-K contact lenses are a great option for most patients with mild to moderate myopia. The lenses are inserted at night and removed in the morning, allowing one to see clearly throughout the day without additional eyewear.

These lenses are FDA-approved since 2002 in the United States.

Stellest myopia control glasses are specialized spectacle lenses designed to slow myopia by using H.A.L.T. (Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target). They provide clear central vision while creating a defocus in the periphery via 11 rings of 1,021 tiny invisible lenslets. This is what stops the eye from elongating. This has been FDA-approved since 2026.

Unlike standard glasses, which only correct blurry vision, Stellest myopia control glasses actively manage the condition, offering a simple and effective way to help protect your child’s vision as they grow.

Low-dose atropine eye drops have been shown to be effective in slowing myopia progression by helping to relax the eye’s focusing mechanisms. The prescribed dosage depends on your child’s visual needs and your optometrist’s discretion.

Myopia progression can continue once atropine treatment stops, so early diagnosis and continuous treatment are essential. Atropine drop therapy must be combined with other myopia controlled methods to effectively reduce axial elongation. drops are placed in the eyes every night before sleeping.
